2012 was a year that I could never have imagined in my personal life. A year where health challenges played a major role but I really learned some amazing things about my perspective on my life, my relationships, my family and most of all my faith. I would never have chosen any of the experiences; at times debilitating and painful but they indeed made everything grow deeper and my appreciation for the ability to be alive each and every morning is truly a gift. When we start a new year we may set some lofty goals, or expectations. I think everyone needs to be challenged, motivated and try something new so that life isn't just about " settling" for the mundane or complacent. We need to stretch ourselves to learn more, face the fears, explore further and serve others more than ourselves. I summed up 2012 as a year of learning and I definitely can look back and see how that happened. Not by chance, or coincidence, but by facing fears, entering into unknown territory and learning from those who know much more than myself.
I think there is a tendency once we get into the fifth decade of life to just coast and say more years are behind than ahead. In this era it is important to have a life more about "being" versus "doing". A lot of times the transitions that take place in this transitional time of life, no longer take the known path but instead may ask us ro follow Christ into an unknown path less traveled. Terry Walling describes the second half of life as a time of deciding and refining. What contribution are you making the lives of others? Of all the things that you have done in the past, perhaps even the last 12 mths where did you feel God used you the most? What did you bring to the situation? Perhaps it is time to get serious about what drives your passion. Do you need to overcome some fears? What is stopping you from going deeper in realizing what God wants you to do in this next transitional stage? Our last phase on this earth is about finishing and that will be in a later post but for those in their 40's and 50's it is time to start making the decisions that we have avoided for too long .If 2013 is a year of transition for you, it is time to start listening to One voice.
Here is a quote from my instructor Terry Walling:
" Transitions are about "voice recognition". As you travel through life, from here on, it's about voices... and which voice will you follow? Do you hear the voice of the one who made you, or the ones seeking to make you?. Transitions help you value God's voice. It is the difference between just living and life. Life comes when you are better able to recognize his voice from theirs."
