Life happens. The events that hide behind the curves in the road are not always given to us with advance notice. One day you wake up and your life is changed. You cannot go back to the way it was, the people in your life have changed and you have no idea what is next OR how you wil navigate through this life changing moment and move foward. I have experienced this a couple of times in my life, when our child became ill and then again with changing careers. The first one was definitely life changing and impacted me forever, so the significane of the second bump in the road was navigated in a much different fashion.
I remember seeing an article in our paper one day that I cut out and put in a file. The bold headline read " You can die from a broken heart". Really! When we lose something we treasure that gives us significance, we have to process all the different emotions attached to the treasure. You need to work through the anger, the denial, the acceptance and what is next. The process is called grieving.
In this economy many have lost their jobs. They have walked into their office and have been terminated. Their heart is so incredibly heavy and they have no idea how to carry on. I want to encourage you today, to say that you can move forward. You have value, you have strengths that only you possess. You are worth having on a staff team, you bring to the table something that no one else can and you need to believe that. First, you need to grieve what you left behind. You cannot look backwards and go to the "what ifs" because the "what if" does not exist. Reality is your friend right now and it is important to cling to the things that you know and believe. The Lord says that you are wonderfully created by Him. This new experience, one that has broken your heart, shattered your dreams will refine you to be stronger, more confident, and happier....if you allow that to happen.
Tomorrow I will be recorded for Micro Christian Entrepreneurs on the topic of burnout with Ken Manesse Sr . I know what it feels ike to have your heart broken, but it can heal. You will always have some scar tissue but that is a good thing because it is a reminder of how far you have come! Believe He is enough to make that happen.
